Welcome to Bronx Climate Justice North ~ One Bronx, United for Climate Justice
Bronx Climate Justice North (BCJN) is a grassroots climate justice organization based in the North Bronx. We work for ‘climate justice’ because we understand that climate change arises not just from the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities, but from political and economic systems that create, perpetuate, and feed off of deep social and racial inequities.
Addressing climate change requires profound political and economic shifts, not just technological fixes. We draw hope from this struggle, since fighting climate change creates opportunities to change our world for the better. We invite you to stand with us as we fight for climate justice, resist the abuses and dark vision of the Trump administration, and work in the Bronx and beyond for a greener, more democratic, equitable, and just world.
BCJN mobilized NW Bronx neighborhoods for the September 21, 2014 People’s Climate March. Since then, we have grown in vision, outreach, and activism. Our diverse, energetic, and committed members live throughout the Bronx, and work in solidarity with community, environmental justice, and anti-gentrification organizations around the borough.
BCJN works for solutions to the climate crisis on many fronts: for renewable energy, sustainable buildings and transportation, jobs for all at living wages, health ecosystems, food justice, climate-resilient and climate-healing communities, a climate-friendly agricultural system, cleaner and greener air, water, parks, and waterfronts. We work in solidarity with movements to protect the rights of religious, ethnic, and gender minorities, immigrants, and the undocumented.
While our efforts have a strong local focus, we also work at the city, state, national, and international levels. We’re the Bronx affiliate of 350.org, the global climate mobilization movement, and collaborate with our sister organizations 350NYC, 350 Brooklyn, and 350NJ.
By 2030: 100% Renewable Energy
We support binding international agreements cutting global warming pollution, with a target below 1.5 degrees of warming. We’re working with other New York City climate organizations for a just transition to a new economy based on 100% renewable energy by 2030. We strongly oppose nuclear power and natural gas. We recognize that to reduce greenhouse gases that are causing global warming, our work must include changes not just to our energy system but to our agriculture, transportation, economic, and governance systems as well. And it must include widespread ecosystem restoration.
Our Mission — To Survive and Flourish
Climate threats to our planet’s living systems and to biodiversity are putting our species and countless others in imminent danger. We join in solidarity with communities on the front lines of climate change — those suffering first and worst in our borough and around the world. We dedicate our efforts to our children and yours, and all children across the world, so that all future generations may not just survive, but flourish.
Please join us — we’re working for a greener, more democratic and just world.
